Who we are

TankAway is a family-run waste removal business covering the East of England — Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and east Hertfordshire. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this notice.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to quote for a job and then carry it out:

• When you enquire — your name, phone number, email address, the address or postcode of the property, and whatever you tell us about the tank or the job.
• When you message us on WhatsApp — your phone number, your messages, and any photos you send us (for example, a photo of the tank cover).
• When you call us — your phone number and the details you give us on the call.
• When we carry out work — the site address, what we removed, and where it was taken. We are legally required to keep this.

We do not collect payment card details through this website. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

• To quote and to do the work — because it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract, and then to perform that contract.
• To keep waste transfer records — because we have a legal obligation to, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the associated duty of care.
• To keep accounting records — because we have a legal obligation to under UK tax law.
• To reply to a general question — because we have a legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.

We do not send marketing emails, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.

Who we share it with

We keep this deliberately short. Your information is shared only with:

• The authorised disposal site that receives the waste, as required by the waste transfer note.
• Our service providers — the company that hosts this website, the form provider that delivers enquiries to our inbox, and WhatsApp (Meta) if you choose to message us that way. WhatsApp's own privacy terms apply to messages you send through it.
• HMRC, the Environment Agency, or another authority, where we are legally required to.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that don't become a job — up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Job and accounting records — 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
• Waste transfer notes — at least 2 years, as the duty of care requires.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it erased where we are not legally required to keep it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to ask for it in a portable format.

Email james@tankaway.co.uk and we will respond within one month. It costs you nothing.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Cookies

This site does not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Nothing is set that would identify you, so there is no cookie banner to click away.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top.
